Temperature is a critical parameter in machining as it directly affects the cutting performance, part quality, residual stresses, distortion, tool life, etc. Control of all these aspects is very critical for controlling the quality of precision components in aerospace and biomedical industry. In this article, a novel analytical algorithm for fast temperature prediction in intermittent cutting processes like milling is proposed. Due to its analytical nature, the algorithm is capable of accurately calculating the workpiece temperature in a very quick time.
